A word on the designer:

The Leather Trading Company (LTC), established as a shoe accessories company, was purchased by the Hersi family in 1972. At its peak, LTC employed 12 people and served 15 midsize shoe factories. However following Kenya’s 1989 trade liberalization, the shoe industry collapsed under the pressures of secondhand and Chinese imported shoes, all but eliminating LTC’s customer base.

Since 2006, Abdi Hersi, LTC’s Managing Director, has been working to revive the company and support the family’s leather tannery. LTC now produces leather handbags and wallets with bone and brass fixtures. Whilst Abdi admits that times are still tough, he is hopeful that things will continue to improve, and is excited about a partnership with Lionne. His ambition is to open a small factory producing high quality shoes.
