The Himba are indigenous people from the northern part of Namibia which is a coastal country on in southern Africa. They are traditional nomadic pastoralists who until now managed to maintain a large part of their culture.
Western clothes are shunned in favour of tradition and the women cover themselves with a bright red ochre.
The Himba dress has recently adapted to include intriguing bracelets handcrafted from recycled waterpipes. This Himba have fused a modern material that would normally find its way to landfill into their current outfit by taking discarded pipes and shaping and embellishing them to create a cool bracelet that works in Africa in downtown Toronto and everywhere else.
The ideal of avoiding waste and utilizing the materials that are at hand is exemplified in the Himba Bracelet!
