Nearly 250 million turkeys were raised in the US last year alone. The insatiable market, which was $4.5 billion in 2011, has led to significant changes in the industry to breed and raise more fowl quicker than ever. As a result, most of the birds that will go under that Thanksgiving carving knife this year, were raised on factory farms and grossly altered for quick production.
Take a read and decide if an organic bird, or perhaps skipping the meat altogether, are the better options this Thanksgiving.
