The real versus artificial Christmas tree debate replays itself every year, but truth be told, each option has its own place on the naughty list. If you’re not interested in picking a side in the debate but still want to bring a festive feel into your home this holiday, here are a few alternatives that just require a little DIY action and some creativity!
My favorite idea is creating the illusion of a Christmas tree on your wall. This is great for those who live in small quarters or are looking to use as little space as possible. Hunting around the internet for inspiration I found a few really gorgeous ideas. Head outside and collect some fallen branches to mount right on your wall in the triangular shape of an evergreen, then decorate the branches with a thin strand of lights and a few ornaments. You can also omit the logs and hang only the lights and a few ornaments on the wall. For a more personal touch, mount a collection of some of your favorite small objects that you already have lying around in the shape of a tree.
If you have some space to spare, how about decorating a ladder? It’s easy to hang ornaments and string lights on just as you would on a tree (plus there’s plenty of space underneath to stack gifts!).
Put your book collection front and center by stacking them in the shape of a tree. Toss a star, angel or snowflake on top to complete the look.
Or take recycling to a new level. Collect and stack cans into the shape of a tree… functional and eco (though we’re not sure how structurally sound!).
Whatever your preference, there are plenty of crafty and eco-friendly alternatives to the traditional Christmas tree. Tap into your creative side and try one out this holiday season!
